About the Blog
This blog is all about good food. Food is all about enjoyment. Throughout the blog, you’ll find some of our favorite recipes with a quick blurb about the dish in general, some of the ingredient choices that we made, and suggestions on changes you can make so that you can enjoy the dish even more. The recipes may be my own original recipes, they may be based on something I recently ate, or they may be recipes that I liked out of a cookbook or from another blog (sometimes modified and sometimes not). If it’s not my recipe, I’ll tell you where I got it from. If it’s based on something I saw or ate, I’ll tell you about my inspiration.
In addition to recipes, we may occasionally tell you about some restaurants that we have recently visited, the food we ate, and how to get it. Remember: we will travel for food. We love to travel, so restaurants we write about can be from anywhere in the world. Mostly, they’ll be in New England because that’s where we spend most of our time. Again, this blog is only about good food, so you'll only ever see positive restaurant reviews on this blog.
Finally, sometimes we’ll just talk to you about cooking skills, equipment, and techniques. I never had to cook until I started college (and, boy, were some of those early attempts nasty!). I was fortunate to have parents who made dinner every night, so I never had to. That means that I’ve had to learn a lot about the best ways to make or prepare a slew of different ingredients and dishes. Learning these things taught me that, well, sometimes people just need to know how to chop an onion quickly or check the temperature of your steak without a thermometer. There are tons of resources on things like that, and I’ll do my best to demonstrate them whenever I think about it or whenever it’s relevant to what I’m cooking.
About Us
Hi all! We’re Allie and Joe Boales and we run this food blog! We have a passion for good food: making it, looking at it, eating it, whatever. We could talk about food for hours on end (believe me, we do it often). Few things are more fun than enjoying good company while eating a fantastic meal. We love to try new recipes and restaurants, and we’ll travel far to get them. We’ve even taken a weekend road trip from Philadelphia to Boston (to pick up a passenger) to Toronto (about 30 total hours of driving and one border crossing) to get some meatballs that looked tasty. It was totally worth it and we’d do it again.
Allie is a graphic designer and currently works for a company that publishes cookbooks. Somewhat ironically, she’s not the cook. For our blog, she spends time looking at the food, deciding how it could look its best, and photographs it. She’s also managing the design of this blog.
Joe does physics for a living and cooks fantastic food for fun (or when he’s stressed… if you see four desserts show up on the same day, you’ll know why). He loves to experiment in the kitchen, try out new recipes, and change them whenever something seems off. He does most of the writing and any necessary coding here, so if you see any typos, it’s his fault.
